Contest Rules

We here at Ekidsland Publishing and Ekidsland.com, Inc. (collectively, the Company) believe that every young writer and illustrator has a right to be published! So we are beginning a contest. Here is the idea. Every month we will select an "Author of the Month" and an "ARTIST of the Month."

This contest is provided ONLY for entertainment purposes.

Our primary intent is to allow children to have some fun and present them with an avenue of expression. We want every youngster to take away from this experience a sense of accomplishment. Our secondary intent is to give every child the opportunity necessary for their successful personal growth; to have that feeling of being able to contribute something to society as a whole. Thirdly, we hope to inspire children to read, to write, to draw; to express themselves positively.

Unfortunately, in the world today, there are those who wish to rob us of our joy. Therefore, there must be rules. Please read below for the details concerning your submissions, rights, and responsibilities pursuant to any submission for this monthly contest.

AUTHOR OF THE MONTH

The contest rules for "Author of the Month" are as follows:

1. This contest is open to all children ages 5 to 10 from anywhere in the world.

2. The story must be 750 words or less. Only ONE story and any accompanying illustrations, if any, may be submitted at any one time. Multiple submissions will be considered non-compliant and will not be considered for this contest. You may submit separate stories, and any accompanying illustrations, as often as you want, but under separate cover.

3. The story and/or illustrations MUST be submitted by email attachment ONLY. We will not accept receipt of any document and/or illustration by any other means.

4. The story must be typewritten and in a word doc format (Microsoft or compatible format (.doc, docx, or compatible). A story delivered in PDF format may be considered IF it is in an editable format. PDF documents NOT in an editable format will not be considered compliant to these instructions and will not be considered for this contest.). We may have to cut and paste the story to fit our online format.

5. The story must be written in English. We cannot accept any stories not written in English. We only publish in English.

6. By submitting your story and/or illustrations, if any, for consideration in this contest, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions set down in the "Release Statement." You may submit your own illustrations, if you want. Illustrations are NOT required. However, for any illustrations submitted for this contest NOT drawn by the Author, you must obtain permission from the illustrator allowing us to publish the illustrations with the story, if selected. The responsibility for obtaining such permission lies solely with the author. The Company will not be responsible for any copyright infringement issues. By you submitting the illustrations drawn by someone else, you are stating that you have permission to do so. (click here for the "Release Statement.")

7. The Author and/or Illustrator will retain all copyright to their respective work. However, to protect your identity, the copyright notice, when published, will be shown in its approximate format: Story Copyright (c) 2008 by AUTHOR. All Rights Reserved., or, for the illustrator: Illustrations Copyright (c) 2008 by ILLUSTRATOR. All Rights Reserved. For both story and illustrations: Story and Illustrations Copyright (c) 2008 by AUTHOR. All Rights Reserved.

8. The submission must contain the Author's full name (Only the child's first name will be published for security purposes), age, your home state and/or country, photo, and email address in the body of the email. Please do NOT include your phone number. We will NOT ever contact anyone by phone. We will contact you, if we have any questions or comments, by email ONLY. Your privacy will be strictly protected.

9. You may submit your story on any subject. However, the subject matter must be suitable for young children. Any stories not found to be suitable for young children will NOT be considered in this contest.

10. If selected, you will be notified of the month your story will be available on the site. The story will appear for the entire month. Please do not call or email us to inquire about the status of your story. If selected, we will notify you.

11. Each month's winner will have their story and any associated illustrations, their photograph along with their first name, age and home state and/or country, and the copyright information shown above the story. NO OTHER INFORMATION WILL BE UTILIZED OR DISPLAYED.

12. COMPENSATION: The publication of the story, and any associated illustrations along with a free t-shirt (if applicable) like the one shown below, constitutes the total prize for winning.

13. LICENSE AND PERMISSION: The Author grants the Company, a nonexclusive, royalty free, perpetual license to display the story and any associated illustrations, in the "Author of the Month" section of the Company's internet site. This license and permission to display the story and any associated illustrations may be revoked at the sole discretion of the Author upon written notification to the Company. The Company will remove the story and any associated illustrations from the "Author of the Month" section of the Company's internet site within a reasonable time after receipt of written notice of revocation of the license.

14. We will not release any information regarding our Authors to anyone. DON'T ASK! This is supposed to be fun and safe for all children.
