The Gingerbread Pony
This story actually originated in my head in 1958, when, as a young child, I had the most incredible dream that I still remember to this day. In fact, I'm almost positive that it actually happened. I have since updated the story, changing certain characters and events. This is the first bedtime story I ever told my daughter and son. The story was revised and updated in 1980. What makes this story so unique is that the entire storyline is written in rhyme. That was a chore that I undertook because the storyline in my head has always been a rhyming piece. I'll tell you this. If you want a real challenge, try writing a story with solid traditional story elements, introduction, conflict and resolution, and rhyme the sentences. That will separate you from the pack real quick. Now, all these years later it will be illustrated so that characters can come to life, so to speak. The illustrator, Joshua McGill, is an extraordinary talent. He has the uncanny ability to get into my brain and illustrate the characters only seen in my head. I hope you enjoy reading the story and viewing the wonderful and magical illustrations. Synopsis In the dead of night a young girl is awakened from her slumber by a tap on her window. Outside stands a living gingerbread pony. The pony has been sent by the fairies in Fairy Land on an urgent mission to bring our heroine back to Fairy Land to help them with a dire emergency. A great giant, on the Troll Land side of the great jellybean wall separating both kingdoms, is systematically eating the jellybean wall. If something is not done soon, the wall will fall and all the Trolls will invade Fairy Land. Lisa, our heroine, comes up with the plan to save the wall, but can she accomplish her mission before the wall falls?
